First of all it is pretty hard to believe that I would write this such thing, because honestly I am one of that kind of student that hates being an Indonesian student. But somehow lately I realized that it is not a matter of system or environment or any other things that you may want to mention which bother your school life the most, it is you - yourself being such a whiny. Darling even flowers grow through dirt, all you need to do just upgrade yourself. There is a phase in every teenagers life I believe, which everyone want to leave their place, either it is moving to another city or even other country. I was in that phase when I realized that the idea of running away from your problem is stupid.

When you first read the title you probably screamed "NOOO!" inside, I could imagine some of you literally screamed like Luke Skywalker denying that Darth Vader is actually Anakin. Yeah I know, going to school at dawn because the school started so early in the morning, learning at least 13 subjects, the school dismissed so late in the afternoon, stuck in traffic jam, taking an after class course, stuck again in traffic jam, arrived at home extremely tired, doing homework so late, sleeping for few hours and repeat those activity until you graduate. Well now, let me share something that might change your mind or at least makes you feel better.

Big Number of Subjects

I have about 13 subjects both in elementary school and middle school, but suddenly in high school I got 16 subjects. At first it was overwhelming, because that means a lot more homeworks are about to come. It does turned that way and bother me a lot at first. All you may think, why didn't the government decrease the number of school subject since it was all just a burden for them. The first two subjects that pop up in you head would be civic and history. Most of us think that both subjects are unimportant. For example civic, since you were in elementary school and now maybe middle or high school, the core of the lesson never change it is applying Pancasila in everyday life, Indonesian government system and some character building, am I right? Why keep learning the same thing over and over again for 12 straight years and not just get rid of it. Is it what you think, hmm? But no, actually having many subjects is good because you will get used to having a lot of deadline and pressure, you will manage to solve priority list and many more you can imply from having many subjects. One time soon when you were working you will thank this education system for shaping you, a hardworker.

EE is it poop?

Not a lot of Indonesians familiar with EE, short for Extended Essay, it is 4000 word essay based on personal research which used as final assignment in many school abroad. Extended Essay exist in IB (International Baccalaureate) system, so that is why not all Indonesians know about it. In our education system writing and presentate that kind of thing is not exist in the other side we have multiple choices exam for our very 13 or so subjects. Few of us, whom got the chance to learned about education system abroad must be feeling thankful that we don't have something called TOK and CAS. Similar to EE, TOK or Theory of Knowledge is an essay and presentation assignment, the difference is in the topic and word count. For TOK the word count is only 1600 and the topic in based on lesson they had learned and explaining them in an essay. Meanwhile for EE the topic is much bigger, you could talk about world politics, sustainable future or even inventing something as long as it is written in 4000 words essay. CAS Creativity, Activity, Service; from the name you could already guess what should you do with this one. Yup, a project which targeting the students to be creative. So, are you still going to whine about UN and SBMPTN, while students abroad having those three assignment and also SAT before they could go to college.

Free Class and Extended Deadlines

I bet this is everyones' favorite subject. Though the teacher left some assignment to finish most of us tend that the assignment is non exist, right? And when you were given some homeworks you could choose your own deadline. I mean even the teacher gives you deadline you could still ngaret and the teacher would still take your homework and give it a score. But sorry darling, this is only exist in our education system.***
